Painter 11 for photographers, by Martin Addison October 15, 2009 S.T. Max (Upstate New York) 23 out of 24 found this review helpful
I LOVE THIS BOOK!
I've struggled with PAINTER for some time, not really being able to use it . All the books I've had previously explain the tools & brushes etc,and are very tedious & BORING! They want you to spend hours practicing making marks with brushes, pens etc When I got this book with DVD, I was really WOWED! you have access to all the photos he uses & He gives step by step instructions so that you can then use the techniques on your own right away.
I can't say enough great things about the book or the teaching method. It is simple, clear & to the point. He jumps right in, first chapter & you start painting right away, & uses each painting lesson to illustrate many different aspects of Painter. The DVD is invaluable not only for all the information, but you get to see how he is using the brushes to apply the paint. Before this book, I didn't even understand how to use "clone" or "quick clone"! very simple. The book worked for me & I highly recommend it.
Super text for Painter 11 August 23, 2009 Roy G. Hilts (salinas, ca. United States) 19 out of 20 found this review helpful
Hello. I am using the book to help teach a seniors PAINTER 11 class.
During this past year have tried to find just the right text to assist in teaching the class. Martin Addison's book has been a god send. Just what I have been looking for. The step by step tutorials are so easy to use and follow. The big plus is the CD which is included. Lots of really great material..Roy H.
Words from an alleged "expert" user and author of another Photoshop/Painter book October 18, 2009 Donal Jolley 11 out of 11 found this review helpful
Martin Addison's "Painter 11 for Photographers" is poorly named. It should be called "Painter 11 for Everyone including Artists, Photographers, Casual Users and Everyone Else Not in the First Three Categories." It is one of the books I keep close at hand and I check it regularly for inspiration and clarification. I'm not nearly as comfortable in Painter as I am in Photoshop, and even though I'm also an alleged accomplished user my previous edition of Mr. Addison's book has a worn spine and dog-eared pages.
I -reaaaaally- like his chapter showing the brush variations in a systematic, well done side-by-side comparison. That alone with worth the price of admission, but then he goes and shows the Brush creator to exponentially maximize what came before in such an easy conversational manner that it makes thick skulled people such as myself knock my forehead and say "Eureka!" no matter how many times I read it.
A lot of bang for your buck, Martin Addison's book should NOT be on any Painter user's shelf. It should be open next to the keyboard and digital tablet.
High recommendations for Painter 11 for Photographers: Creating painterly images step by step August 11, 2009 Travlyn Womyn (wherever my RV is parked - Florida today) 11 out of 12 found this review helpful
I generally use Painter for freehand work, as I have photo-editing programs I'm happy with. I purchased this book as I saw the potential for working with my images in a different, more refreshing way, and it has gone way beyond my expectations. After starting with images from the included CD, you will quickly find yourself applying your new knowledge to your own images. Well-written.
Painter 11 for Photographers: Creating painterly images step by step February 11, 2010 Lindamarie Lodon (Sky Valley, CA) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
The title of this book says it all. I love to take photos with an idea of using them in artwork, mostly fiber arts, and Martin Addison is an excellent instructor in the use of this photo enhancing program. I downloaded the 30 day free trial of Painter 11 to experiment with when I first received this book because the version of Painter that I had was much older. Martin's instructions going through many different applications step by step, were clear and complete and made it a joy for a non-techno type like myself to follow. I had great fun practising each technique on photos that were in the accompanying DVD and then again on one of my own photos. This latest Painter software is a terrific progam for this sort of work, and I did end up purchasing it. This is because "Painter 11 for Photographers: Creating painterly images step by step" made it so easy for me to learn.
