A Concise Gem!!! March 7, 2010 D. Mercier (Montreal) 4 out of 5 found this review helpful
I love this book, for each time I open it at any page (really ANY page) I end up learning something in spite of its concise nature; a major quality! And that is also its weakest point, as far as I am concerned : it is a bit short on lenght, or should I say depth in the very intimate sense that Bryan Peterson has gotten us used to since its strong debut with Understanding Exposure. I like reading stories explaining ways by which a given professional photographer tackles various challenges regarding aperture / shutter speed / composition choices, but here one never feels that sort of close relationship with the writer. On the other hand, as a reference book or field guide, the book as a whole is amazingly dense as everything remains clearly explained with great simple tips, informative tabs, catchy graphics, and beautiful sample shots about several relevant topics in each chapter (CAMERAS IN THE 21ST CENTURY, HOW CAMERAS WORK, IMAGE CAPTURE, SYSTEM ACCESSORIES, IMAGE MANIPULATION, BASIS TECHNIQUES, EQUIPMENT TECHNIQUES, SUBJECT TECHNIQUES, AFTER THE PHOTO, HISTORIC MOMENTS IN PHOTOGRAPHY, GLOSSARY)!
The Photography Bible April 15, 2008 S. L. Komarek 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
This book is terrific! As good as or better than taking a digital photography class.
Experience is an Excellent Teacher August 21, 2010 Masao Miwa (Los Angeles, CA USA) Excellent 'user's guide' book for beginners and intermediate photographers. Hits most topics of concern to photographers in an easy to understand (and short) format. Practical and useful advice that will help amateur photographers up the learning curve. Does a great job explaining the 'language' of photography. Lotsa pictures! (remember---a picture is worth a thousand words)
All the Basics March 24, 2008 Joseph Brokenbourgh (Roseburg, Or USA) 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
I recently bought this book for my assistant. My assistant having very little photography experience at the beginning helped a lot but didn't always know what I was doing. She now has a very good idea and even helps me compose shots now. Wonderful! Would recommend for any beginner photographer or any photographer needing to brush up on basic ideas and terms.
Excellent ! January 28, 2009 Pete Carron (Easton, PA) 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
One of the best photography books I've seen. Well written and easy to understand.
