Product Description
Containing numerous contemporary images by leading photographers, this indispensable manual concerning wedding portraits explains posing fundamentals as well as how to create a flattering, feature-specific photograph—one that focuses on the head, shoulders, arms, legs, or torso—in different levels of close-ups, from head-shots to full-lengths. Since posing is the second most challenging aspect of photography and with the added complications of a wedding—from the bride's personal style to her figure and gown—it can be very easy for a photographer to make a wrong turn. This perceptive reference provides the perfect place to turn when in need of quick posing strategies and fresh ideas.

5 out of 5 stars an inspiring visual reference   February 8, 2010

This is a very handy book for any portrait photographer. The book is very visual, comprised mostly of photographs of poses that you can study, copy, practice with, experiment with, whatever. I think it can be easy to get stuck in a rut with posing (especially in wedding portraiture, where you're always tempted to just stick with what's worked before rather than take unnecessary risks), and this book can help guide you to new ground. There is very little text (some brief overviews of the basics of bodily posing are included) which to me is as it should be--I'd much rather see actual poses that work than read about them.

5 out of 5 stars 500 ideas a place to start or refresh   February 7, 2010

First of all we need to understand what this book is it is a sourcebook. to help give you guidence. I enjoyed how for those that took the time to read the introduction is starts out with close ups, then three quarters and then full length poses. Many of the pose also gave me ideas to use with non brides like high school seniors. Some people have said that the book did not provide diagrams etc. Well so what, if your were studying to be a chef not everyone is going to give you the complete recipe. We tried 3 of the poses on a recent bridal session and added them to our normal stuff and the brides mother ($$$) loved 2 of them. We did some other poses with a Senior girl. She liked them as well. Sometimes we need to step back and look at other things on the menu. I to like many of you are constantly studying to improve my craftsmanship & I believed in this book that I did 2 things. 1. I ordered a copy for a photographer buddy in another state and I am sending him a copy. We will go back thru the book together. 2. This book is now in my camera bag to go with me always. You see I will look at it in my down time when waiting on a bride or senior, just to to keep the motor running.Let me say it this way.
this book is like (if I may use golf for my example) going out to the driving range and hitting a bucket of balls to stay sharp.

I am not a wedding photographer. I shoot portraits. However, when things get boring, I regularly turn to photography related websites for insipration. For wedding photographers, this book is PACKED with ideas and concepts. There are no lighting diagrams or descriptions of how a certain shot was obtained but if you're looking for something new for your armamentarium, take a look at this book for MANY ideas!

5 out of 5 stars great advice and gorgeous pics   February 28, 2010
Sacramento Book Review (Sacramento, CA)
There are hundreds of advice books on the shelves today for the rapidly-expanding digital photography market. Some are more tech-heavy, some are more showy; some spotlight composition, others are little more than coffee table books to briefly skim through while killing time.

//500 Poses for Photographing Brides// handily walks the tightrope between handbook and gallery, illustrating great technical and artistic ideas with a dazzling array of portraits. (My personal favorite is the bride sitting outside the church, pink sneakers glowing underneath her dress.)

Indoors, outdoors , standing, sitting, kneeling ... all angles and styles are represented, and tips from the photographers themselves are interspersed throughout. A brief guide to posing the subject is also included, with myriad valuable suggestions for how to make the most of each shot.

I've done freelance photography work for several weddings, and I've tackled many of the situations described in the book. The advice within is simply stated and essential for the success of professionals and amateurs alike. The book is gorgeous, informative, and easy to understand... what more could you want?
