Great, great effort July 25, 2009 David Benner (La Quinta, Ca.) 20 out of 21 found this review helpful
I am a photography nut; not a professional, but a very experienced amateur. I use Nikon equipment exclusively, and although its un-important, I use a D300 and a D700. Mostly landscapes. I have 21 books on digital photography; describing everything from Photoshop to "Dummies" books. I've read through them all.
I read this book at a local big bookstore and had to have it. Not only does the author review how to take good pictures, but he explains why the technology works inside the lens/camera. There are 256 pages to the book, everything from lens design and digital sensors to "raw" processing to ideas on selling photographs.
If you're new to digital photography, this probably isn't the book for you. But if you own a D-SLR, the assumption is that you're knowledgible enough to take reasonably good pictures and you want to learn more about the details. If you're just thinking about buying a D-SLR, this ought to be the second book you buy!
Best digital photography book I've ever read!
"Very" handy take along March 11, 2010 Marshall H. Mckenna (Knoxville, TN) 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
Even if you have covered all or most of the basics, written or shown in a different format or perspective can aid in the understanding of that task you are trying to master. This book is in easy to read and understand format.

Title is misleading as book will be helpful to all photographers who are committed to improving their knowledge and skills. My first look at book was at library. After a short period of time, I decided that I needed book in my personal library. Author is skilled at explanations that are easily understood.

Pro Photographer's D-SLR Handbook (A Lark Photography Book) by Michael Freeman May 8, 2009 dj (USA) 7 out of 9 found this review helpful
I like all of Mr. Freeman's books. I first got this book from the library and soon realized that it is a reference book worth buying. There are a lot of basics in this book. It was a good basic review for me. I consider myself an intermediate photographer. Since this book was published in 2008- the information is current.
The chapters on Optimizing, post production, photoshop, sharpening, and histograms was helpful. The book is well written and easy to apply to your own photos. In addition to Michael Freeman, I think Scott Kelby writes excellent photography, photoshop, and digital SLR books.
